We wanted to create unique learning space within a forest. However, we didn't want to create a space that facilitated learning, we wanted to design an architecture that would interact with the students and become a tool with which they could learn about the forest. The idea came from a story about fairies living amongst the roots of trees. We wanted to create a 'fairy space, an inhabitation of the threshold between the matter and the space of the forest. Conceived as an architectural extension of the root network of a tree, users can walk on top of the school affording the users inside the feeling of being above ground but below the forest. The lesson is woven amongst the fabric of the structure using the choreographed openings to learn about aspects of the forest.
